Tenant Organizations

Active, organized residents and voucher holders are important to the successful administration and management of CHA's affordable housing programs.   The two tenant organizations of CHA assisted households are the public housing Tenant Councils, and the Alliance of Cambridge Tenants (ACT).

The Tenant Councils are formal representative bodies created and governed by public housing residents.  Tenant Councils often act as intermidiaries between CHA administrators and residents, particularly when CHA is considering significant policy reforms or modernization work.  Tenant Councils help inform residents of CHA plans, and in turn share residents' feelings about planned policy or modernization initiatives.

In addition to the Tenant Councils operating at many CHA developments, there is a Citywide tenant organization called the Alliance of Cambridge Tenants (ACT).  ACT's Board is made up of public housing residents and voucher holders.  Like the Tenant Councils, ACT provides public housing residents and voucher holders an avenue for communicating their concerns and questions about CHA plans and initiatives in a formal, organized way.

The open communication between residents, voucher holders and CHA staff is invaluable to the Agency's efforts to administer the City's affordable housing programs in ways that respond best to the needs, wants and values of the households it serves.

Public housing residents should contact their management office to for information about Tenant Council.  Public housing residents and voucher holders interested in getting involved in ACT can contact them by phone at 617-499-7031 or 617-825-9750 or by mailing them at P.O. Box 391078, Cambridge, MA 02139.
