I Need Emergency Housing!
In very rare cases CHA allows households experiecing extraordinarily difficult situations to receive emergency housing. Please read the Emergency Criteria fact sheet in the Quick Links box on the right side of this page to learn more about CHA's Emergency Policy. The entire policy is found in Chapter 4 page 4-2 of the Admissions & Continued Occupancy Policy.
Which Program Should I Apply For?
There are four types of housing programs available to low-income households looking for federally or state subsidized housing assistance:
1. The MTW Voucher Program (This waitlist is CURRENTLY CLOSED)
The voucher program helps households rent privately owned, market rate apartments in and around Cambridge. 2. The Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Program
The SRO program provides participants with their own bedrooms in a rooming house-like setting where facilities like bathrooms and kitchens are shared with other residents. Click Single Room Occupancy Program on the left side of this page to read more about and apply for the SRO program.
3. Elderly/Disabled Public Housing
The CHA manages over fifteen state and federally supported properties reserved just for elderly and disabled households. Applicants must be at least 58 years old to qualify for elderly housing. 4. Family Public Housing
The CHA manages over twenty state and federally supported family developments in Cambridge. CHA's family public housing portfolio includes large and small properties offering studio to six bedroom apartments throughout the City of Cambridge.
