News and Announcements
The Cambridge Housing Authority was awarded over $26 million in federal stimulus funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). On a per apartment basis, CHA is the sixth largest recipient of competitive ARRA grants amongst large public housing agencies.
These stimulus funds are enabling CHA to advance over $75 million in long-overdue redevelopment and renovation projects throughout the City. This work will result in higher quality housing for low-income Cantabrigians, and will allow CHA to improve properties' energy efficiency while significantly reducing their carbon footprint. Combined, these projects will inject over $150 million dollars into the local economy and create hundreds of well-paying jobs for hard working men and women.
To describe the work being funded with help from the $26 million ARRA stimulus funds, CHA has developed fact sheets highlighting important aspects of each project, from the type of work being undertaken, to each project's impact on the local economy. CHA will be updating these fact sheets periodically as each of these exciting projects moves forward. The change from state to federal public housing requires some changes to residents' leases. The letters below are being sent to residents of state public housing developments CHA is transfering to the federal public housing program.
Revised Site Plan for Lincoln Way
CHA is considering transferring most of its state subsidized public housing to the federal public housing program. Transferring state public housing into the federal program would result in significant increases in operating funds, predictable capital funding and would provide the CHA with opportunities to pursue federal grants that cannot be used for state public housing.
